Overview

Designed for trainee instructors, independent ADIs and driving schools, MyDriveTime brings scheduling, student learning records and business administration together. That makes it a practical fit for instructors who would otherwise split those tasks across separate systems. Schools should factor in the additional per-instructor charges as their teams grow.

Key features

The diary handles lesson and practical-test bookings, cancellations and rebooking, as well as personal commitments. It can share with Google, Apple and Outlook calendars, with controls over how much appointment information is passed on. Privacy Mode displays the diary without its details, a useful option when showing availability while keeping appointments private.

Teaching tools include customizable syllabuses, reflective logs and lesson journey tracking. Invited students can use the MyDriveTime student app to follow lessons and access resources chosen by their instructor. This gives students a way to engage with lesson records, though the resources they see are selected by the instructor.

Finance administration covers income and expenses, student balances, receipt photos and spreadsheet exports. Configurable payment types are aligned with HMRC categories, which may help instructors organize records for their accounts. The tools support routine tracking; they are not a substitute for specialist accounting advice.

MyDriveTime says it invests in professional-grade data and security systems and that its service has operated without interruption since October 2014. Support is available by email, phone and chat on weekdays from 9:30 to 5:00. The company also offers to migrate records from another system at no cost, reducing the work of switching.

Pricing

The free PDI Best Start plan is for trainee instructors who have not yet qualified. It provides unlimited access to all features, with no commitment and 1-2-1 advice and guidance. Its qualification condition makes it a useful starting point, rather than a permanent free tier for every instructor.

For Individuals costs £19 per month and includes SMS text messages and a 1-2-1 start-up session. A 30-day free trial is included; it requires no card and can be cancelled at any time. That gives an individual instructor a low-friction way to assess the full service before paying.

For Schools & Teams starts at £19 per month. The second and third instructors cost £15/mo each, instructors four through ten cost £10/mo each, and instructors eleven and above cost £5/mo each; admin accounts are free. The falling per-instructor rate helps larger schools, but the total still rises with teaching staff. The 30-day trial and migration offer make starting or switching less onerous.

Platforms

MyDriveTime is available on Android, iOS and the web. That combination supports instructors working across phone and desktop, while students can use the dedicated student app.

Who it's for

Choose MyDriveTime if you are a trainee instructor, independent ADI or driving school looking to manage lessons, student progress and financial records together. Its student app, calendar sharing and migration offer add value for instructors coordinating with learners and moving from another system. It is less compelling if you only need a simple diary, or if your school wants to avoid charges that scale with instructor numbers.

Pros and cons

Broad administration in one service: diary, student lesson records and finance tools cover several recurring instructor tasks.
Student participation: invited learners can track lessons and access instructor-selected resources through their app.
Helpful start and switching terms: the individual plan has a 30-day no-card trial, and record migration is offered at no cost.
Team costs scale: schools pay additional per-instructor charges, even though the rate falls for larger teams.
Free access has a qualification condition: PDI Best Start is for trainees until they qualify, not an unrestricted ongoing free plan.

Verdict

MyDriveTime is a strong choice for instructors and schools that want scheduling, student progress and finance administration joined up, with a free trainee plan and a no-card trial for individuals. The main reason to look elsewhere is cost that grows with a school’s instructor roster, or if your needs are limited to learner theory study or a basic diary.
