Overview

EngageNow is a job-search and work-management app for UK school staff looking for local roles through Engage Education. It is best suited to people open to teaching, SEND, support, administration or back-office work across day-to-day, temporary and permanent placements. Its strongest case is that job applications, booking calendars and timesheets sit together; the trade-off is that access is tied to registering with the agency.

Engage Education, founded in 2008 and headquartered in Watford, uses the app to connect staff with school vacancies and manage bookings. This is a focused route into school work, not a general job-search service.

Key features

Job matching and applications

Profiles can be tailored by role, subject, key stage, qualifications and travel distance, while push-alert preferences can be adjusted. That gives school staff a way to narrow opportunities to the work and locations they want, rather than relying on a broad vacancy feed. A matching job shows its school, date, role and pay; users can apply in the app, but an Engage Education consultant confirms the booking.

Bookings and timesheets

Users can set availability day by day, mark unavailable dates and manage upcoming bookings in a calendar. The home dashboard also surfaces upcoming work and pending timesheets, with a status showing whether submitted work has been approved. This makes EngageNow more useful after applying than a jobs-only app, especially for staff juggling changing school assignments. Payment is processed by Engage Education's in-house payroll team based on approved timesheets.

CPD, referrals and support

Registered users can access free, role-relevant CPD resources. The referral feature awards Amazon vouchers for qualifying work, which may appeal to users already recommending colleagues, though it is not a reason on its own to choose the app. Users can contact their Engage Education consultant or the app support team.

Privacy and security

Engage Education says it uses personal information to match users with jobs and manage bookings, does not sell it to third parties, and makes app activity visible to the agency and the schools a user engages with. That visibility is relevant for anyone who expects job-search activity to remain private from a prospective employer. The company's school-platform page says the app uses AES-256 encryption at rest, TLS 1.2+ in transit and role-based access controls, and is hosted on Microsoft Azure.

Pricing

EngageNow is free to download and use. Its Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free, with no subscription fees or charges for applying to jobs, and includes free CPD resources. There are no paid tiers or payment options to weigh against the free offering, so the main cost is the commitment to register with Engage Education and use its staffing process.

Platforms

EngageNow is available on Android, iOS and the web. Its hosted model and employer accounts support job applications and collection, while the mobile apps suit staff checking alerts, availability and timesheets between assignments.

Who it's for

Choose EngageNow if you are UK school staff seeking local work through Engage Education and want vacancies, availability, bookings and timesheet status in one place. Its range of role types makes it relevant beyond classroom teachers, including SEND, school support, administration and back-office staff. Look elsewhere if you want to search without registering with an agency, or if you do not want that agency and engaged schools to see app activity.

Pros and cons

Pro: Job details include school, date, role and pay before applying, helping candidates assess a match.
Pro: Availability, upcoming bookings and timesheet approval status are handled alongside job search.
Pro: Applying, CPD resources and use of the app are free, with no subscription charge.
Con: The app works alongside Engage Education registration, so it is not an open, independent job board.
Con: Activity is visible to Engage Education and the schools a user engages with, which may not suit private job seekers.
Con: A consultant confirms bookings after an in-app application, so applying does not itself finalize a placement.

Verdict

EngageNow is a sensible choice for school staff who want a free, agency-linked path from matching vacancies through bookings and timesheets. Its defining advantage is the work-management layer around applications; its defining limitation is the required Engage Education relationship and shared visibility of activity. Choose it if that arrangement suits your school-work search, and look elsewhere if you need a broader or more private job hunt.
