Overview

Reviews arrive on pull requests within minutes as a summary, comments, and suggested fixes. A fix can be applied directly to the pull request and committed, a practical advantage for resolving straightforward issues without translating review notes into separate edits. The main trade-off is that private repositories and more frequent scheduled scans require paid plans.

Key features

Security checks cover committed secrets, static-analysis vulnerabilities, infrastructure-as-code misconfigurations, dependencies, and licenses. Every plan checks pull requests, but Open Source and Pro run scheduled scans twice a week; Team adds nightly and on-demand scans. That distinction matters for teams seeking visibility between code changes, while the free and Pro tiers still cover PR-triggered checks.

Open Source includes custom review rules and automatic approval of low-risk pull requests. The extension supports VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, and JetBrains, while Git hosting support includes GitHub, GitLab, GitHub Enterprise Server, and self-hosted GitLab. Jira integration is a Pro feature. Team adds an issues dashboard, analytics, and a public REST API for listing, reading, counting, and bulk-updating security findings and groups.

Sourcery says it does not retain customer code after a review or use it to train models. Team supports bring-your-own LLM, and self-hosted deployment is available through sales. Support is by email and documentation; SOC 2 compliance is stated.

Pricing

The Open Source plan is free forever and covers public repositories, AI reviews, PR summaries and diagrams, one-click fixes, custom review rules, automatic approval of low-risk PRs, and security checks on every PR. It is a strong starting point for public projects, but it does not provide private-repository access or nightly scans.

Pro costs $12.00 USD per month billed annually, or $15 per developer per month billed monthly. It adds private repositories, higher review limits, and Jira integration. Pro suits individual developers or smaller teams that need private-repository reviews, though scheduled scans remain twice weekly.

Team costs $24.00 USD per month billed annually, or $30 per developer per month billed monthly. It includes everything in Pro, nightly scans of 50 repositories, on-demand scans, a full issues dashboard, higher review limits, and team analytics. The additional cadence and visibility make it the more relevant paid tier for teams managing security findings across repositories; the 50-repository nightly scan limit is worth weighing.

Enterprise has custom pricing and is billed annually. It includes self-hosting, GitHub Enterprise Server, SSO, bring-your-own LLM keys, a dedicated success manager, and invoice billing. Choose it when those deployment or organizational requirements matter. Installing Sourcery starts a 14-day organization-wide Team trial without a credit card.

Platforms

Sourcery offers API, extension, self-hosted, and web access, with cloud, self-hosted, and desktop deployment options. Its listed integrations include GitHub, GitLab, GitHub Enterprise Server, self-hosted GitLab, VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, JetBrains, and Jira.

Who it's for

Sourcery can fit solo developers through enterprise organizations. It is most compelling for teams that want automated PR feedback and security checks in the same workflow, particularly when they value applying fixes directly to a pull request. Public repositories can start free; private-repository work calls for Pro or above, and teams needing nightly checks or broader security management should consider Team.

Pros and cons

Pro: Suggested fixes can be committed on the pull request, reducing friction for straightforward review changes.
Pro: Security checks span code, dependencies, licenses, secrets, and infrastructure-as-code, rather than focusing on a single issue type.
Pro: The free public-repository tier includes custom rules and low-risk PR auto-approval.
Con: Scheduled scans are only twice weekly on Open Source and Pro; nightly scanning requires Team.
Con: Private repositories are excluded from the free plan, and the lower tiers do not include Team's dashboard, analytics, or on-demand scans.
Con: Team's nightly scans cover 50 repositories, a limit to consider for larger portfolios.

Verdict

Sourcery is a strong fit for developers and teams who want fast PR feedback, actionable fixes, and broad security checks in one workflow. Its free public-repository plan is a useful entry point, while Pro unlocks private repositories and Team is the sensible choice for nightly scans and team-level visibility. Look elsewhere if those paid-plan limits or costs do not suit your repository needs.
