Overview

Danbyte is an open-source platform for managing IP space, data-center infrastructure and network records in one system. It suits infrastructure teams that want discovery and automation alongside their inventory. Its broad feature set is available without a seat license, but it is a self-hosted product today.

Key features

Danbyte’s IPAM tracks prefix containment, free space and utilization by VRF, alongside VLANs, DHCP ranges, DNS zones and route targets. That connected view is useful for teams managing address space as part of broader network operations; it may be more than needed for a small team that only wants a basic IP list.

Its DCIM tools model rack elevations, device faceplates, ports, power, virtual chassis and device catalogs. Capacity planning, plus power and cooling monitoring, gives data-center teams a way to keep physical infrastructure in the same system as network records.

Topology support spans four views, end-to-end cable and fibre-strand tracing, floor plans, circuits, VPN tunnels and wireless SSIDs. This breadth helps teams document relationships across physical and logical infrastructure, though it also makes Danbyte a poor fit if the requirement is limited to one narrow inventory task.

Proxmox VE and VMware vCenter imports cover virtual machines, disks, virtual switches, VLANs and ESXi hosts, with drift reconciliation. Active checks, SNMP and nmap discovery maintain an observed layer and a drift inbox, so teams can compare recorded infrastructure with discovered state.

Automation includes native Ansible and Terraform inventory, Jinja export templates, configuration contexts, drift runners, signed webhooks and scoped APIs. Integrations also include Slack, Microsoft Teams, PagerDuty, LDAP/AD and WinRM. Documented deployment controls include authenticated APIs by default, scoped tokens, TLS-secure cookies, HSTS, CSP, security headers and SSRF protections.

Pricing

Danbyte’s two free options both cost 0.00 USD per free: Free and open source is billed Free and open source, while Self-hosted Danbyte is billed forever. Both include all features, have no seat license or enterprise tier, and have no license expiry. There is no paid self-hosted tier to unlock additional features, making the offer unusually straightforward for teams comfortable running the software themselves.

Danbyte Cloud is coming soon, with custom pricing. Its planned private instance includes managed updates, backups, uptime and TLS, with export anytime. Teams wanting managed hosting will need to wait for that option; those choosing self-hosting must provide the operating environment.

A private live demo is available without signup or a card, and deletes itself after 30 minutes. That is enough to explore the product, but not a lasting workspace for evaluation.

Platforms

Danbyte supports API, Linux, web and self-hosted deployment. The quick installer targets Linux and bundles Python, Node and dependencies, but PostgreSQL 15+ and Redis remain requirements. It can run fully air-gapped on the user’s hardware, with no phone-home, telemetry or expiring license. That suits organizations prioritizing control and offline operation, but deployment and database administration are part of the trade-off.

The website states that it uses no tracking cookies, third-party trackers or cross-site profiling; the self-hosted software sends no telemetry.

Who it's for

Danbyte is best suited to infrastructure teams that need IPAM, DCIM, topology, virtualization records and automation to work together, and can operate a Linux-based self-hosted service. It is less suitable for teams seeking a managed service immediately, or those that do not need its broad infrastructure scope.

Pros and cons

Pro: All features are included in the free self-hosted offering, with no seat license or license expiry, so team size does not add a software-seat charge.
Pro: IPAM, physical and virtual infrastructure, discovery and automation share one platform, which can reduce the need to maintain disconnected records.
Pro: Air-gapped operation and no telemetry support environments where external connections are undesirable.
Con: PostgreSQL 15+ and Redis are required alongside the Linux-targeted installer, adding infrastructure to provision and maintain.
Con: Danbyte Cloud is not yet available, so teams seeking managed updates, backups and uptime cannot use that deployment option now.
Con: The demo expires after 30 minutes, limiting its usefulness for extended evaluation.

Alternatives

For a free self-hosted DCIM option, ColdAisle is a reasonable alternative; it supports web and Windows as well as self-hosting, but its stated offering is narrower than Danbyte’s combined IPAM, topology and automation scope.

Global Site Management offers a free entry-level version intended for smaller data centers and pilot programs, making it worth considering for those use cases.

Hyperview is a paid alternative with a 30-day all-features trial that requires no credit card; its listed plan is 3.00 USD per year, billed per asset per year. Consider it if a trial before purchase matters more than Danbyte’s free, no-expiry model.

Sunbird dcTrack is a paid option at 19.50 USD per month, billed as an annual subscription at $234.00/cabinet/annually, with unlimited users, sites and assets. It may suit teams seeking a paid DCIM operations product with those stated allowances.

Cormant-CS is a paid option at 7200.00 USD per year for a one-year agreement, covering 500 assets and support with 32 hours of live consultant-led service.

NetZoom DCIM offers an on-premises enterprise option with an annual renewable subscription licensed by user and unlimited sites, data centers, branch offices, racks and devices.

EcoStruxure IT is a paid alternative with a three-year plan for 250 nodes.

netTerrain DCIM offers on-premises or cloud deployment, with pricing varying by devices and editor users; on-premises installations include unlimited read-only viewers.

Verdict

Choose Danbyte if your team wants a broad infrastructure source of truth with discovery and automation, and can run its dependencies on Linux. The free, no-seat-license model is its clearest advantage; look elsewhere if you need managed cloud hosting now or want a narrower tool with less operational overhead.
