Overview

Coverfairy is a browser-based production studio for independent authors preparing their own books. It suits self-publishers who need cover and interior files alongside launch visuals, rather than only a cover concept. Its strongest advantage is bringing those jobs together while keeping cover text editable.

Key features

Cover design and artwork

Titles, subtitles, author names, spine text, and back-cover copy remain editable typography layers. That makes it practical to revise wording without rebuilding the artwork. Authors can generate images, choose suggested artwork, or upload art they own or license. AI use is metered: each delivered image, variation, or edit costs one credit, while failed generations are not charged. The four-credit free allowance is therefore best treated as a small preview budget, not an open-ended design workspace.

Interior, print, and launch files

Import Word or EPUB manuscripts and export EPUB, print-ready PDF, or large-print PDF. Coverfairy calculates print wraps and spines for KDP, IngramSpark, Lulu, and Barnes & Noble Press, and supports bleed settings. If KDP rejects an unchanged export because Coverfairy miscalculated technical dimensions, it will correct the file without charge or refund the affected pass—a useful safeguard for authors preparing print-on-demand editions.

Exports include ebook JPG or PNG, a 300 DPI print PDF, a 2,400 × 2,400 ACX audiobook JPG, and launch images. Mockups cover books, e-readers, cafés, bookshops, and social launches. An active pass also enables a Canva-ready PPTX or flattened PDF for import into Canva, though downloading and importing are manual steps.

Privacy and support

Coverfairy names Supabase for authentication, hosting, and storage, and Stripe for payments; it says it does not store full card numbers. Support targets are one UK business day for security reports and paid-export outages, two days for billing, refund, privacy, intellectual-property, and print cases, and five days for general questions. Those targets are most reassuring for urgent export and security issues; general questions have a longer response window.

Pricing

The freemium plans are structured around occasional projects versus ongoing production. All paid plans include unlimited non-AI cover, interior, and mockup exports; AI credits are the scarce resource.

Plan	Price	What it includes	Best fit
Start for free	0.00 USD per free	4 one-time AI image credits; watermarked cover drafts	Trying the workflow before paying, not final unwatermarked production
Week Pass	6.00 USD per once	Billed 7 days; unlimited non-AI Cover, Interior, and mockup exports; 20 AI image credits; no renewal	A short, focused book-preparation sprint
Monthly	12.00 USD per month	Billed monthly; unlimited non-AI Cover, Interior, and mockup exports; 40 AI image credits per billing period; cancel anytime	Authors working across a longer or more iterative production cycle

The free tier allows experimentation but watermarks drafts and offers only four AI credits. The Week Pass costs less upfront and does not renew, but its seven-day billing period suits work that can be completed quickly. Monthly doubles the Week Pass credit allowance and provides a full billing period, with cancellation anytime; it is the more practical choice when revisions or multiple book assets will take longer.

Platforms

Coverfairy runs in a browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chromebook. That broad desktop coverage avoids dependence on a particular operating system, but the service is browser-based rather than a native desktop application.

Who it's for

Choose Coverfairy if you are a self-publisher who wants cover typography, manuscript formatting, print dimensions, and promotional mockups in one workflow. It is especially well matched to authors preparing both ebook and print editions. If the goal is only to generate cover artwork, the bundled interior and launch tools may be more than you need, and the AI-credit limits deserve attention.

Pros and cons

Pro: Editable cover text layers make later title, author, or back-copy changes possible without treating the wording as fixed artwork.
Pro: Manuscript import, multiple interior exports, print-wrap calculations, and launch mockups cover more of the publishing workflow than cover creation alone.
Pro: The Week Pass has no renewal, and the KDP dimension correction or refund promise addresses a concrete print-production risk.
Con: Four free AI credits and watermarked drafts limit the free plan to evaluation rather than finished covers.
Con: Delivered AI images, variations, and edits each consume credits, so repeated creative iteration can use the allowance quickly.
Con: Canva transfer requires a manual download and import workflow rather than a direct in-service handoff.

Alternatives

AI Book Cover Generators is the category list to consult when comparing cover-focused options.
Book Layout Software is the category list for readers whose priority is interior layout.
getvivix is a freemium Android, iOS, and web option with a free tier of three signup credits and one clip credit, plus a $1.00 Standard or Pro trial; choose it when those platforms and its model access are more relevant than Coverfairy's book-production workflow.
BookCover AI offers a free tier with 10 credits for up to 10 covers, four basic styles, and 1K high-resolution downloads; consider it when a credit-based cover generator is the narrower need.
BookCoverDesign.ai has a Standard plan at 9.99 USD per month with 500 monthly credits and watermark-free downloads; it may suit readers who prioritize a recurring cover-generation credit pool.
Cover Studio AI has a free Draft plan with paperback, hardcover, and ebook layouts, own-art uploads, trim and spine calculations, and PDF and Kindle exports; consider it when those cover outputs are the main requirement.
Entangled Text AI Book Cover Generator is another freemium web alternative.
Publbee Cover Studio is a freemium web and extension alternative with a free trial.
CoverForge offers unlimited watermarked 1024px design previews on its free tier and a one-time Single cover plan; consider it when a single-cover purchase is preferable to Coverfairy's pass or monthly structure.
C2Story is a freemium web and API alternative with a Starter plan at 10.99 USD per month that includes 100 credits and API access; consider it when API access is central to the workflow.

Verdict

Coverfairy is a strong fit for self-publishers who want to move from editable cover design through interior and print exports to launch mockups in one browser-based service. Its broad production workflow and specific KDP print safeguard are compelling reasons to choose it. Look elsewhere if you need only a cover generator or expect extensive AI iteration: free credits are limited, and paid AI use remains quota-based.
