Overview

CoinTracking brings portfolio analysis, transaction imports, and tax reporting into one service. Its country-specific reports cover more than 100 jurisdictions, with formats including IRS Form 8949 and Schedule D, HMRC, ATO, DATEV, Elster, and BMF. That breadth makes it a strong candidate for users with cross-platform histories or country-specific filing needs, though the free plan does not provide the tax-reporting functionality most users will be evaluating.

The service supports imports from more than 400 exchanges, wallets, and blockchains through API, CSV, or blockchain-address imports. Automatic categorization for DeFi swaps, staking rewards, NFT trades, and margin positions can reduce manual sorting, particularly for investors whose activity extends beyond straightforward buys and sells.

Key features

Reporting and portfolio analysis

More than 25 customizable reports, interactive charts, and profit-and-loss reporting give active investors several ways to examine their holdings and transaction history. Country-specific tax reports are the more distinctive draw: support includes the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Austria, and more than 100 countries overall. The breadth is useful, but users should match their jurisdiction and required forms to the reports they need before choosing a plan.

Imports, security, and support

API, CSV, and blockchain-address imports cover a broad range of sources. CoinTracking says exchange API keys are read-only, so they cannot trade or withdraw funds. It also states that it holds ISO/IEC 27001:2017 certification, stores data on servers in Germany, encrypts it at rest and in transit, and handles it under GDPR compliance.

iOS and Android apps sync with an existing CoinTracking account. Tutorials, support, and a directory of tax professionals are available; the directory includes 504 CPAs across 95 countries. AI Tax Saver, a CSV File Converter, and Source of Funds are additional tools, with availability varying by plan and country.

Pricing

CoinTracking uses a freemium model, with a 7-day trial that includes unlimited imports and requires no credit card. After the trial, the Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and is limited to portfolio viewing, so it is best for checking the service rather than producing reports or maintaining a larger tax workflow.

Starter — 49.00 USD per year: 200 transactions, 25+ reports, 400+ exchanges and wallets, and two backups. It is the entry point for users with a modest history who want reporting, but the 200-transaction ceiling makes it a poor fit for frequent traders.
Pro — 169.00 USD per year: 3,500 transactions, auto-sync, API access, and five backups. This is a more practical tier for active investors who want ongoing synchronization rather than manual imports.
Expert — 259.00 USD per year: selectable transaction limit, priority support, auto-sync, API access, and 10 backups. It suits users whose volume exceeds a fixed low cap or who place value on priority assistance.
Unlimited — 899.00 USD per year: unlimited transactions, advanced tools, an expert session, and 20 backups. The high price is most defensible for very high-volume users who need the uncapped transaction allowance and included expert session.

Corporate pricing includes three unlimited accounts, multi-client management, individual branding, and tools for CPAs, accountants, and financial professionals. It is built for professional client work rather than individual portfolio tracking.

Platforms

CoinTracking is available on the web, iOS, and Android, and also offers an API. Its mobile apps sync with an existing account, making them companions to the broader service rather than a separate account workflow.

Who it's for

CoinTracking is strongest for investors with activity spread across many exchanges, wallets, and blockchains, especially when DeFi, staking, NFTs, or margin positions complicate transaction records. Its range of tax-report formats also makes it worth considering for people filing in supported jurisdictions. Professional users who manage multiple clients have a dedicated corporate offering. Users with few transactions and no need for tax reports should weigh whether they need more than the free portfolio view.

Pros and cons

Pro: More than 400 import sources and three import methods can bring scattered crypto records together.
Pro: Reporting spans more than 100 countries and includes multiple named tax formats, useful for users whose filing requirements are jurisdiction-specific.
Pro: Automatic categorization covers DeFi swaps, staking rewards, NFT trades, and margin positions, reducing the burden of classifying varied activity.
Con: The free plan is portfolio-view-only, so tax reporting requires a paid plan.
Con: Starter caps transactions at 200, which may quickly rule it out for active traders even though it includes broad import support.
Con: Unlimited costs 899.00 USD per year, a substantial step up for users who need to remove transaction limits.

Alternatives

For another crypto tax option, compare Coinpanda, which has a free plan covering 25 transactions per tax year and a 79.00 USD per year Hodler plan with 100 transactions. Koinly may suit users who prioritize a free tier: its free plan includes 10,000 transactions, unlimited wallets and exchange accounts, portfolio tracking, and capital-gains previews.

rotki is a different fit for users who want desktop or self-hosted availability; its free plan includes 1,000 recent events and 10 user notes. Verdict

Choose CoinTracking if you need broad crypto imports, detailed portfolio analysis, and tax reports for a supported jurisdiction, particularly with complex activity or professional client work. Its core advantage is the combination of import breadth and jurisdiction-specific reporting; look elsewhere if you need a genuinely useful free tax tier or your transaction count makes its lower paid plans restrictive.
