Overview

The workflow is simple: upload a JPG or PNG of up to 8MB, select a style, inspect a protected preview, then unlock the full-resolution cartoon. That preview-first approach reduces the risk of paying for a style that does not suit the photo. The trade-off is that the free web option stops at one protected preview; full-resolution results and further creations require a purchase.

Cartoonie focuses on converting photos, not generating cartoons from text. Its range of 34+ styles and support for individuals, pets, and group photos give it useful variety within that specific task, while regular additions to the style selection may keep it fresh for repeat users.

Key features

Photo conversion and privacy

The service uses OpenAI as a third-party provider to process cartoon requests. The selected photo, style instructions, and technical request information go to OpenAI; Cartoonie says it does not send your name, email, payment information, device identifier, or account credentials with them. Cartoonie says it deletes uploaded originals from its servers immediately after generation and does not keep a photo library. It also says it does not store facial-recognition or biometric data, or create biometric identifiers or templates. Those protections are relevant for personal and family photos, though the image itself is still sent to an external AI provider for processing.

Usage and rights

Normal personal use is capped at 20 cartoons per account per calendar day. Excessive use can lead to cooldowns, delays, lower-cost processing, or temporary suspension, so the annual plan is not an unlimited high-volume production option. The service itself is for personal, non-commercial use, but unlocked cartoons may be used in personal or commercial projects subject to the terms and applicable law. That distinction matters to anyone creating work for a business: the service-use restriction is not the same as a blanket ban on commercial use of a finished cartoon.

Pricing

Cartoonie combines a free preview, one-time in-app credit packs, and a yearly subscription. The packs suit occasional use without a recurring bill; the annual plan is for people who expect to make cartoons regularly and can stay within the daily personal-use limit.

Plan	Price	What it includes
Web preview	0.00 USD per free	One protected preview; full-resolution unlock and additional creations require a 10-credit pack.
3 Cartoon Pack	1.99 USD per once	3 cartoons.
5 Cartoon Pack	1.99 USD per once	5 cartoons.
Welcome Pack	3.99 USD per once	Included quantity not stated.
10 Cartoon pack	4.99 USD per once	10 cartoons.
25 Cartoon Pack	8.99 USD per once	25 cartoons.
50 Cartoon Pack	12.99 USD per once	50 cartoons.
Cartoonie Premium Yearly	49.99 USD per year	Unlimited generations for normal personal use, up to 20 cartoons per calendar day.

The 3- and 5-cartoon packs share a 1.99 USD per once price, making the 5-pack the stronger stated option for anyone choosing between those two. Larger packs lower the upfront price per cartoon, but require paying more at once. The free preview is useful for assessing a style, not for receiving a full-resolution file. Buyers who need help with a purchase can contact support by email and should include their checkout email and relevant payment receipt.

Platforms

Cartoonie is listed for Android, iOS, macOS, web, and Windows. The web flow works on desktop or Android for one protected preview, while the iPhone and iPad app supports creating cartoons, saving and sharing them, and working from selfies, group photos, and pet photos.

Who it's for

Cartoonie is best suited to individuals and families who want cartoon versions of existing photos, value a preview before unlocking a result, and need only occasional or moderate personal use. It is less suitable for text-to-image creators, people who need a full free output, or users planning sustained production above 20 cartoons per day. Businesses should also distinguish the personal-use restriction on the service from the stated permission to use unlocked cartoons in commercial projects under the terms and applicable law.

Pros and cons

Pros: A protected preview lets users judge a style before buying a full-resolution result.
Pros: More than 34 styles and support for people, pets, and groups cover several common photo-to-cartoon uses.
Pros: The stated deletion and biometric-data practices address concerns around uploading personal photos, while still involving processing by OpenAI.
Cons: The free web route yields only one protected preview, so a usable full-resolution result requires spending credits.
Cons: The 20-cartoon daily cap and possible cooldowns or temporary suspension make the yearly plan a poor fit for high-volume work.
Cons: Cartoonie does not support text-to-cartoon generation, and the Welcome Pack does not state its cartoon quantity.

Alternatives

For a broader category comparison, see AI Cartoon Generators. Choose Cartoonize instead if Linux support or a free basic tier with essential effects and no registration matters more; its Pro Annual Plan is 6.99 USD per year. GenToon is a better fit for users who want monthly credits and character limits, with a free tier of 150 credits per month and 20 characters, or a Lite plan at 10.00 USD per month for 800 credits and 20 characters.

ImageToCartoon is worth considering for a public converter that requires no account, subscription, credits, or payment. Pixelcut is another freemium option. myComics.ai suits readers looking for comic-book creation, with a free tier of 30 credits and 3 art styles and a printed comic book from 9.99 USD per once. Pict.AI offers a free web option limited to two uses per tool per IP address, with further use directed to its mobile app.

AI Photo Cartoonizer is a web-only alternative with a free, no-sign-up tier, per-IP rate limits, and uploads up to 2MB. Rewind.ai AI GIF Generator is a web-based alternative for GIF generation rather than Cartoonie's photo-to-cartoon workflow.

Verdict

Choose Cartoonie if you want a focused way to turn personal photos of people, pets, or groups into cartoons and want a protected preview before paying. Its broad style selection, multiple one-time packs, and stated photo-handling practices are the strongest reasons to choose it. Look elsewhere if you need text-based generation, a free full-resolution result, or dependable high-volume output beyond the daily cap.
