Overview

Blokada is an open-source privacy app suite that brings together ad blocking, family controls and a VPN. It suits people who want to cover more than one privacy need across desktop and mobile, though the right choice depends on which Blokada product and plan they need.

Blokada 5 blocks ads, trackers and malware across apps and browsers without root or jailbreak. Blokada 6 adds cloud-based blocking, private DNS, multi-device management and web monitoring; Family focuses on controls for a child’s device; Plus is the VPN option. That breadth is useful, but it is not one uniform package: the free plan is an Android ad blocker, while Plus has a separate device cap and setup process.

Key features

Blocking and privacy

Blokada 5 blocks ads, trackers and malware in apps and browsers, and supports custom filter lists. Avoiding root or jailbreak lowers the barrier to using it on Android and iOS. Cookie popup blocking is not included, so it will not address that particular source of browsing friction.

Blokada 6 moves ad blocking into the cloud and pairs it with encrypted private DNS, multi-device management and web monitoring. Those capabilities make it a better fit than the free Blokada 5 plan for someone seeking centrally managed protection across devices, though the stated plan information does not include a price for Blokada 6.

Family and VPN

Blokada Family offers customizable device access, activity monitoring, safe search, malware protection, and social media and tracker blocking. That is a more relevant choice for parents managing device use than an ad blocker alone.

Blokada Plus uses WireGuard to encrypt network activity and hide the user’s IP address. It allows up to five active devices, but requires generating a VPN profile in the web dashboard and using the WireGuard app on a compatible platform. That setup is a meaningful trade-off for people who want VPN coverage without a simpler built-in client.

Blokada says it does not track or share network activity; Plus collects minimal data needed to operate the service. Its privacy policy says personal data is stored in the EU and shared with service providers, such as email and payment suppliers, for stated purposes. The data controller is Blocka AB in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Pricing

Plan	Price	What it includes
Blokada 5	0.00 USD per free	Free ad blocker for Android 5 or newer
Blokada Plus	5.00 EUR per month	VPN for up to five active devices

Blokada 5 is the straightforward choice for Android users who want free ad blocking, but it does not represent the broader cloud, family-control or VPN offering. Plus is a monthly commitment, automatically charged in advance by credit card; a 7-day money-back guarantee applies, except for cash payments and App Store purchases. The five-device ceiling matters for households or users with many devices. Customer support is available by email, through support.blokada.org and through contact links in the app.

Blokada 6 and Family have no stated price here; treat either as custom pricing rather than assuming they are included in the free plan or Plus subscription.

Platforms

Blokada lists Android, browser extensions, iOS, Linux, macOS, web and Windows among its platforms, giving the suite broad desktop-and-mobile reach. The free Blokada 5 plan is narrower: it requires Android 5 or newer. Plus works where the WireGuard app is available, with access configured through a profile generated in the web dashboard.

Who it's for

Choose Blokada if you want ad and tracker blocking without root or jailbreak, or if you need a broader set of privacy and family-control tools under one maker. Android users who only need basic blocking have a clear free starting point. Parents may find Family’s monitoring and access controls more useful than a standalone blocker, while VPN seekers should be comfortable with WireGuard setup and a five-device limit. Look elsewhere if cookie popup blocking is essential or if you need the free plan to cover platforms beyond Android.

Pros and cons

Pros

Free Android entry point: Blokada 5 costs 0.00 USD per free and blocks ads, trackers and malware without root or jailbreak.
Several distinct privacy needs: Blocking, family controls, cloud management and a WireGuard VPN are addressed by separate Blokada products.
Custom filters and broad platform reach: Custom filter lists and support across desktop and mobile platforms give users room to tailor how they use the suite.
EU data storage: The privacy policy places personal data within the EU and limits sharing to service providers for stated purposes.

Cons

Free-plan scope is narrow: Blokada 5 is an Android-only free ad blocker, not the whole suite.
VPN setup takes extra steps: Plus requires a dashboard-generated profile and the WireGuard app, rather than working as a standalone client.
Plus is capped at five active devices: That may not stretch far for a larger household or someone with many devices.
No cookie popup blocking: Users seeking that specific browser feature will need another option.

Verdict

Blokada is a strong fit for people who want more than basic ad blocking, especially Android users who can start free and families who need device controls. Its main advantage is the range of distinct privacy tools, while the chief caveats are the limited free-plan scope and the extra WireGuard setup and five-device cap for Plus. Choose it when those trade-offs suit your needs; look elsewhere for cookie popup blocking or a free option that spans more platforms.
