Overview

Bigjpg uses neural networks to enlarge user-supplied images, reduce noise and compression artifacts, and sharpen detail. It supports enlargement up to 16×, though free accounts are capped at 4×. That makes the free plan a way to handle modest, occasional jobs, not a substitute for paid access when high magnification or larger uploads matter.

Key features

Scale and noise controls

Users can select enlargement from 2× to 16× and noise reduction from None to Highest. This is useful when a source needs cleanup as well as greater dimensions, while the range of controls gives users room to adjust how strongly the image is processed.

Batch work and API

Batch processing is available, but not on the free plan, which has no parallel enlarging or batch mode. Paid members can also use an API for uploads, enlargement, result queries, and task retries. These features make Bigjpg more compelling for recurring image workflows than for someone who only needs to enlarge a picture now and then.

Privacy and processing

Uploaded images are used for the requested enhancement and are not publicly displayed. Bigjpg says it deletes files within 24 hours for free accounts and 72 hours for premium accounts, and does not use uploads to train or improve its models without explicit, informed consent. It says communications use TLS 1.2 or higher and stored data and backups are encrypted. Users who are not logged in must keep the browser open while processing; logged-in users can close it because offline enlarging is supported.

Pricing

Bigjpg has a free plan and three paid plans. The free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and allows 20 pictures per month, slow speed on a shared server, uploads up to 5MB, and enlargement up to 4×. It includes offline enlarging, but no parallel processing or batch mode. The homepage FAQ also gives a free upload ceiling of 3000×3000 pixels and 5M; the pricing table specifies a 5MB limit. For a few smaller images, that may be enough, but the monthly quota and processing restrictions are tight for ongoing work.

Basic costs 6.00 USD per month, billed 2 Months as a one-time payment. It provides 500 pictures per month, 50MB uploads, and up to 16× enlargement. Standard costs 12.00 USD per month, billed 6 Months as a one-time payment, with 1,000 pictures per month and the same upload and enlargement limits. Premium costs 22.00 USD per month, billed 12 Months as a one-time payment, with 2,000 pictures per month and the same 50MB and 16× limits. The higher tiers chiefly buy a larger monthly quota and longer billing period; choose among them based on expected volume rather than a difference in maximum file size or scale.

All paid plans are stated as one-time payments for their respective terms. The plan descriptions give no renewal terms, so buyers should check the checkout terms before paying.

Platforms

Bigjpg is available on the web, Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows, and offers API access. The spread suits people who switch between desktop and mobile devices, while the API is relevant to developers building a repeatable enhancement workflow.

Who it's for

Bigjpg is a reasonable fit for people enlarging photos or artwork who want adjustable scale and noise reduction, and for users with recurring work that benefits from batch processing or API access. It is less suitable for anyone who needs batch mode on a free account, processes more than 20 images monthly without paying, or needs free enlargement beyond 4×.

Pros and cons

Pros: Scale and noise-reduction controls support different source images and cleanup needs.
Pros: Paid plans raise the cap to 16× and 50MB, with monthly quotas from 500 to 2,000 images.
Pros: Batch processing and API access support repeat workflows, while apps span desktop and mobile platforms.
Cons: The free plan stops at 20 images per month, 5MB, and 4×, with slow speed on a shared server.
Cons: Free users cannot process images in parallel or use batch mode.
Cons: Logged-out users must keep the browser open until processing finishes.

Alternatives

NextGenUp is worth considering if a completely free, open-source option across web, desktop, Linux, and self-hosted platforms better fits your setup. Real-ESRGAN is another free, open-source alternative for users who prefer that model.

LetsEnhance may suit users who want a signup offer of 10 free credits, with 24-megapixel and 50MB inputs and an 8-megapixel output cap on its free plan. PixelPanda Image Upscaler offers one-time credit purchases rather than subscriptions, which may appeal to users seeking a non-subscription payment option.

PicWish Image Upscaler is an alternative for users comparing a free plan with limited non-HD downloads per day and a Pro plan with daily HD downloads for most online features. SupaRes offers a free one-time quota of 10 processing credits, 64 megapixels, and one user, for those who prefer a capped credit allowance.

Upscale.media provides three free credits and downloads each month. Krea Enhancer offers 100 compute units per day on its free plan.

Verdict

Choose Bigjpg if you want adjustable enlargement and noise reduction across photos and artwork, with paid capacity for larger files, batch jobs, or API workflows. Its free plan is useful for small, occasional jobs, but the 20-image monthly cap and 4× limit make it a poor fit for sustained or high-magnification work. Look elsewhere if you need a more permissive free workflow or prefer open-source software.
