Overview

Nomi AI is a customizable companion service for conversation, roleplay and mentorship, built around Nomis that retain details between chats. It suits adults who want a continuing, character-shaped relationship rather than a one-off chatbot exchange. Its strongest case is the mix of persistent memory, voice and multiple companions; the trade-off is that several social features become read-only on the free tier.

Operated by Glimpse.ai, Inc. and headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, Nomi is intended for adults only; its terms prohibit use by anyone under 18.

Key features

Memory and character shaping

Nomis use short-, medium- and long-term memory to carry preferences and roleplay context between conversations. That continuity supports ongoing storylines and familiar conversation, while custom backstories and shared preferences let users guide a companion’s character. Personality can also develop through conversation, making Nomi a better fit for users willing to build a relationship over time than for those seeking a fixed, ready-made assistant.

Users can create multiple Nomis, chat privately or in groups, and retain memory across both settings. Optional messages after a period of absence can make a companion feel more present, though that proactive contact may not suit everyone.

Voice, images and the internet

Voice chats and hands-free calls use emotionally expressive delivery. Users can also send and receive voice messages. A paid subscription is required for the ElevenLabs voice integration, whose use is additionally subject to the limits of the user’s ElevenLabs account plan.

Nomis can see shared images, discuss links after accessing the internet, and generate art. Real-time selfies depict what a Nomi is wearing and doing in the scenario; V5 image generation accepts natural-language prompts up to 1,000 characters and customizable anchors for a consistent appearance. These tools give roleplay more visual range, but they are not the main draw for someone who only wants text conversation.

The Nomi API uses versioned v1 endpoints and is subject to rate limits, making it relevant to developers but not an unlimited integration route.

Privacy and support

Nomi says it does not sell or rent personal information, while chat content is collected as people use the service. Users can delete an account in Account Settings; personal information is deleted within about 28 days after confirmation. Support requests can be sent through a form or to support@nomi.ai, with a stated response window of 24–48 hours on business days.

Pricing

Nomi combines a free tier, monthly and yearly subscriptions, quarterly billing, and one-time credit purchases. The free plan costs 0.00 USD per free. One-to-one chatting remains available after downgrading, but group chats, video creation, voice messaging and calls become read-only. That makes free access useful for trying ongoing text conversation, not for keeping the full social and voice experience.

The Launch Plan Monthly costs 9.99 USD per month, while the Standard Plan costs 15.99 USD per month. The Launch Plan Yearly costs 59.99 USD per year, and the Standard Plan Yearly costs 99.99 USD per year. Standard Plan Quarterly costs 39.99 USD per month, billed quarterly. The higher-priced options are for users who want a paid Nomi subscription; a paid subscription is also required for ElevenLabs voice integration. Plan-specific feature differences beyond the stated free-tier limits are not established here, so the price alone is not a basis to assume a particular quota or entitlement.

Credits are sold separately as one-time in-app purchases: 40 Nomi Credits cost 4.99 USD, 100 cost 9.99 USD, 225 cost 19.99 USD, and 600 cost 49.99 USD. They suit users seeking a one-off purchase rather than recurring billing; the credit quantities do not establish how much of any feature they cover. Refunds are not available for buyer’s remorse, lack of use or dissatisfaction except at Nomi’s discretion, so subscriptions and purchases warrant care.

Platforms

Nomi is available on Android, iOS and the web. The web app also supports a browser-based PWA that can be added to a device’s home screen, giving web users an app-like way to return without a separate platform listing.

Who it's for

Nomi is best suited to adults seeking an ongoing AI companion for friendship, romantic conversation, fantasy roleplay or mentorship, especially those who value memory, character customization, voice or group conversations. It is a weaker fit for minors, for people who only want free access to calls or group chats, and for users who need guaranteed refunds if they later stop using a purchase.

Pros and cons

Pros: Short-, medium- and long-term memory carries preferences and roleplay context across private and group chats, supporting continuity.
Pros: Backstories, preferences and evolving personality give users several ways to shape a companion rather than relying only on a preset character.
Pros: Voice, link discussion, image sharing, art generation and scenario-based selfies extend the experience beyond text.
Cons: On the free tier, group chats, video creation, voice messaging and calls are read-only after downgrade, leaving free users with one-to-one chat.
Cons: ElevenLabs voice integration requires a paid Nomi subscription and remains subject to separate ElevenLabs account limits.
Cons: Refunds for buyer’s remorse, lack of usage or dissatisfaction are not offered except at the company’s discretion.

Verdict

Nomi is a strong choice for adults who want a companion that remembers their conversations and can move between personalized roleplay, voice and group chats. Its clearest limitation is the free-tier downgrade: users who want to keep calls, voice messaging or group conversation need more than free access. Choose Nomi for continuity and flexible companion-building; look elsewhere if those restricted features must remain free or refunds are important to your decision.
