Overview

Bandura is a desktop workspace for building local AI workflows and testing APIs, suited to developers who want editable, versionable flows rather than a hosted testing service. Its combination of visual editing, plain-text workflows, and terminal execution is compelling for local and CI use, but it does not provide built-in scheduling or hosted runs.

Key features

API workflows and imports

Chain HTTP requests, pass values between steps, and assert results in a single workflow. Bandura imports Postman, Insomnia, OpenAPI, Bruno, HAR, and curl requests, making it useful for bringing existing API work into that format. Each workflow is a plain-text .aether file that can be committed and shared through Git; the visual canvas offers an approachable editing surface without giving up an editable file.

AI providers and local models

AI features connect to Anthropic, Google Gemini, OpenAI-compatible endpoints, Groq, OpenRouter, Together, Ollama, and LM Studio. Ollama or LM Studio can run those features locally without an API key or traffic leaving the machine, a meaningful option for users who want local model processing. Bandura states that it collects no telemetry, analytics, crash reports, or account data. API keys are stored through the operating system secret store: Keychain on macOS, DPAPI on Windows, and Secret Service or libsecret on Linux.

CLI, CI, and assistant access

The native @bandura/cli runs the same workflows in terminals and CI, with JUnit output and GitHub annotations. This makes the desktop-authored flows usable in automated pipelines, but execution remains the user's responsibility: Bandura has no built-in scheduler or hosted execution. A local MCP server lets compatible AI assistants list, read, run, import, create, and edit flows.

Trust and support

Support is answered by the engineer who wrote the code. Buyers with formal assurance requirements should note that Bandura has no SOC 2 report, ISO 27001 certificate, HIPAA or PCI attestation, or third-party penetration test. The product operates under the trading name Bandura, and its licence agreement is governed by Ukrainian law.

Pricing

Free: 0.00 USD per free. It allows personal and commercial use, requires no account, has no paid seats, and has no feature tiers. This is the straightforward choice for evaluating or using Bandura without a seat charge.

Commercial licence: 59.00 USD per once, billed one-time per seat. It covers commercial use and perpetual use of covered builds, and includes 12 months of updates. This is the paid option for users who need those licence terms; the Free plan already permits commercial use, so the licence's stated distinction is its coverage of builds and updates.

There is no free trial. The Free plan has no stated seat or feature-tier caps; the commercial licence is charged per seat, and its included updates run for 12 months.

Platforms

Bandura is a desktop application for Linux, macOS, and Windows, with self-hosted execution also supported. Workflows and run history stay on the user's machine, while the CLI provides a route into CI.

Who it's for

Bandura is best suited to developers who want API checks and AI workflows in files they can version with Git, plus local or CI execution. It is a weaker fit for teams that need a hosted runner, built-in scheduling, or formal security certifications as part of their selection criteria.

Pros and cons

Pros

Versionable workflow files: Plain-text .aether flows can be shared and committed through Git.
Broad API migration paths: Imports cover Postman, Insomnia, OpenAPI, Bruno, HAR, and curl.
Flexible AI execution: Several remote providers are supported, alongside local Ollama and LM Studio use without an API key or outbound traffic.
CI-ready workflow execution: The CLI runs desktop workflows in CI and supports JUnit and GitHub annotations.
No account or paid seats required for Free: Personal and commercial use are included at 0.00 USD per free.

Cons

No managed automation: Users must provide their own scheduler or CI environment because scheduling and hosted execution are unavailable.
No formal compliance attestations: Buyers needing SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, PCI, or third-party penetration testing will need another fit.
Commercial licence has a jurisdictional consideration: Its agreement is governed by Ukrainian law.

Alternatives

For a broader shortlist, see gRPC Tools.

Kreya is worth considering for an individual who wants a freemium alternative with a free trial; its Free plan limits request history to the latest request, and it is not open source.
FintX suits readers seeking a free, open-source gRPC client with unlimited clients, auto-save, import/export, tabs per method, and a JSON editor.
grpcui is a free option for readers who want a tool available on web as well as desktop and self-hosted platforms.
Evans is a free open-source gRPC client for readers who prefer that kind of client.
BloomRPC Extended is another free option for Linux, macOS, and Windows.
ghz is a free open-source gRPC load-testing CLI and Go package; choose it for load testing rather than Bandura's local workflow and API-test workspace.
GripMock is a free alternative for readers looking for a tool available across API, desktop, self-hosted, and web platforms.
grpcmd offers a free yearly plan for sending requests, starting a server, reflection, method listing and description, and JavaScript scripting.

Verdict

Choose Bandura if you want to build API and AI workflows locally, keep them in Git-friendly files, and run the same flows from a terminal or CI. Its no-cost plan is unusually permissive for personal and commercial use, but teams that expect scheduling or hosted execution included should look elsewhere.
