Overview

Nexus brings hardware monitoring, cooling controls and RGB lighting together for people who want to manage a PC from one place. Its strongest fit is a Windows desktop with compatible components; Linux and Apple Silicon Mac users also have desktop builds, though some features are Windows-specific. The combination is appealing, but device compatibility is the deciding factor for control features.

Key features

Monitoring and cooling

Live readings cover CPU, GPU, memory, network, disk, fans and temperatures. Windows users also get per-game FPS history, which adds useful gaming context to the system dashboard. Fan and pump curves can respond to any system temperature sensor, while selected devices can stay on their BIOS or firmware settings.

Lighting and hardware support

The GPU-rendered lighting engine supports screen sync, audio sync and Game Sync, alongside addressable RGB control, cross-device sync and lighting profiles. Nexus combines its own device drivers with a bundled OpenRGB build to broaden hardware coverage. It also lists integrations with Corsair iCUE, ASUS Aura Sync, MSI Mystic Light, Lian Li L-Connect, FanControl and Elgato Stream Deck. In practice, those integrations and controls depend on the exact device model, so check compatibility before making Nexus the hub for a particular setup.

Phone remote and privacy

A phone browser can serve as a remote panel. Connections from outside the home network use an encrypted relay and switch to a direct connection when possible; Nexus says remote sessions are end-to-end encrypted and the relay cannot read forwarded data. This is a browser-based option, not a ready-made mobile app: the iOS and Android companion apps are not yet in app stores.

Nexus works locally and offline without an account. Optional anonymous usage telemetry can be disabled in settings. Profile sync is also optional, storing up to five profiles of 512 KB each and excluding authentication tokens and listed third-party credentials. That is a modest allowance for users who want a small synced setup, not a large profile library.

Pricing

Nexus is free: the Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free, with no ads, paid tiers, subscription or account requirement. There is no free trial because the product is free. There is no lower paid tier to trade away features, and the profile-sync cap remains relevant if you choose to sync profiles.

Platforms

Nexus runs on 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, Apple Silicon Macs and x86-64 Linux. The broader platform list includes Android, iOS and web, but the phone remote works through a browser and the companion apps are not yet in app stores. There are no builds for Windows on ARM, Intel Macs or ARM Linux. Windows-only per-game FPS history also makes the Windows build the fuller choice for gaming-focused monitoring.

Who it's for

Nexus suits PC owners who want monitoring, fan or pump tuning and lighting in one free utility, especially when they value local operation and optional account-free use. It is less suitable as a guaranteed control layer for a mixed hardware setup until each exact model is confirmed, or for users who specifically need native iOS or Android companion apps.

Pros and cons

Pro: Combines live system readings, cooling curves and lighting effects, reducing the need to switch among separate control tools.
Pro: Offline use requires no account, and telemetry is optional and controllable.
Pro: The browser-based remote panel can work beyond the home network through an encrypted relay.
Con: Hardware coverage depends on exact models, including for named integrations, so broad support claims do not guarantee control of a particular component.
Con: No app-store companion apps are available yet, and the supported desktop architectures exclude Windows ARM, Intel Macs and ARM Linux.
Con: Optional sync is capped at five profiles of 512 KB each.

Alternatives

For a broader survey of lighting tools, see the RGB Lighting Software category. Readers focused on desktop widgets or benchmarking can compare the Desktop Widget Software and PC Benchmark Software lists.

OpenRGB is the better fit if open-source software is a priority; it is free and open source under the GNU General Public License version 2.
Razer Synapse is another free option for users seeking software available on macOS, web and Windows.
Logitech G HUB is worth considering for Logitech G users who want free LIGHTSYNC RGB customization, device configuration, presets and game profiles.
SignalRGB offers a free Windows plan with a standard content library, basic cooling and monitoring, and two macros; its Pro plan is suited to users seeking a fuller content library and advanced features.
SteelSeries Moments is another free Windows option.
Aurora RGB is a free, open-source Windows alternative with all features free.
GALAX Xtreme Tuner Plus is a free alternative with Windows, iOS and Android platform support.
ASUS Armoury Crate is another free Windows option.

Verdict

Choose Nexus if you want a free, account-optional place to monitor a PC, tune cooling and coordinate lighting, with browser-based remote access as an extra. Its breadth is the main reason to pick it; model-dependent hardware support and the lack of native companion apps are the reasons to look elsewhere if your setup depends on confirmed device control or a dedicated phone app.
