Overview

Android SMS Gateway connects a cloud panel and REST API with an Android phone and its SIM, allowing software to send and receive messages through the mobile operator. Outbound messages come from the real number associated with that SIM, and replies can be delivered to its inbox. The phone, SIM, power supply, and internet connection are part of the setup, rather than optional accessories.

The service covers two-way SMS, inbound messages, contact management, and delivery reports when the device and carrier path provide them. It also supports MMS, scheduled messages, auto-replies, and USSD on compatible handsets and networks. Bulk campaigns can use Excel or CSV files, with message text personalized from spreadsheet columns.

Android SMS Gateway was founded in 2011 and is headquartered in Sheridan, Wyoming, USA. Its stated audience is developers and teams sending OTPs, alerts, transactional messages, or campaigns through SIMs they control.

Key features

SIM-based messaging: Send from the connected SIM's mobile number, with replies able to return to the phone's inbox.
Messaging tools: Two-way SMS, MMS, scheduled sending, auto-replies, and USSD are available; USSD and delivery reports depend on device and carrier support.
Spreadsheet campaigns: Import Excel or CSV contacts and personalize messages using spreadsheet columns.
API and webhooks: A REST/JSON API runs over HTTPS. Webhooks can report delivery, inbound messages, and system events. Examples are listed for PHP, Python, Node.js, Java, and C#.
Multiple devices: Multi-device plans can distribute traffic across Android phones and SIMs and provide failover if a device drops.
Security and data: The maker says it uses HTTPS, API keys, two-factor authentication, scoped tokens, session management, and security monitoring. It processes account and contact details, usage and device metadata, delivery reports, and support correspondence, and says it does not sell personal information for advertising. SOC 2 is on its roadmap; the maker says it does not currently have a completed SOC 2 Type I or Type II report.

Pricing

The service has a free plan and paid plans starting at $19/mo. A free trial is listed. The Free plan includes 300 SMS for lifetime use, 300 contacts, and one device; demo messages append a www.sms-gateway.app footer.

Plan	Price	Included allowance
Free	0.00 USD per free	1 Android device, 300 SMS lifetime, 300 contacts
Starter	19.00 USD per month	2 Android devices, unlimited SMS (platform send volume)
Professional	39.00 USD per month	5 Android devices, unlimited SMS (platform send volume)
Developer	50.00 USD per year, billed yearly	1 Android device, 25,000 SMS per year
Business	77.00 USD per month	15 Android devices, unlimited SMS (platform send volume)

These platform allowances do not cover the separate costs and requirements of operating the messaging setup: customers provide the Android device, SIM, operator SMS credit, power, and internet access. Operator charges and carrier fair-use rules apply separately.

Support varies by plan. Free, Starter, and Developer list email support with a 24–48 hour response window; Professional lists priority email support, while Business lists email and phone support.

Platforms

The listed platforms are Android, API, and web. The app requires Android 5.0 or newer; features such as USSD require Android 8.0 or newer. The service also depends on a compatible SIM, mobile operator, and working internet connection.

Who it's for

Android SMS Gateway suits developers or teams that want software to send messages through Android phones and SIMs they control. Its API and webhooks support integration with other software, while spreadsheet imports offer a route for campaign workflows. It is less self-contained than a service that supplies the mobile connection: users must manage the handset, SIM, operator credit, power, and connectivity themselves.

Pros and cons

Pros: Messages use the connected SIM's real mobile number; inbound SMS and two-way messaging are supported; the API, webhooks, and language examples provide integration options; multi-device plans include routing and failover.
Cons: Messaging depends on customer-provided Android phones, SIMs, power, and internet; operator costs and fair-use conditions are separate; some capabilities depend on handset and carrier support; SOC 2 certification is not currently complete.

Alternatives

Other options in the SMS Gateway Software category include simhook, Smstools, Telerivet, OpenVox SMS Gateway, BulkGate, Clickatell SMS API, Bird Verify, and Ozeki SMS Gateway.

Verdict

Android SMS Gateway is a SIM-based messaging bridge for teams that need SMS workflows connected to software while sending from phone numbers on their own SIMs. The API, webhooks, campaign imports, and multi-device routing cover a range of integration and operations needs. The practical trade-off is responsibility for the hardware and mobile connection, along with carrier costs and device-dependent feature limits. Its free allowance offers a way to begin with one device, but its lifetime SMS cap and appended demo footer are important constraints to note.
