Overview

Alphatax is a tax compliance software suite covering corporate tax, VAT, tax provisioning and Pillar Two reporting. Its products address processes such as preparing and filing returns, consolidating VAT, supporting tax provision work and handling multinational reporting obligations. The company says it was founded in 1991, is headquartered in Staines-upon-Thames in the United Kingdom, and serves more than 1,300 customers.

The suite is aimed primarily at organisations with complex tax operations rather than individuals filing personal returns. Corporate Tax supports compliance in the UK, Ireland and UAE, while Alphatax Pillar Two is described as a SaaS product for multinational organisations. Alphatax Provisioning is designed for in-house tax and finance teams working across multiple entities, contributors, currencies or jurisdictions.

Key features

Corporate tax and filing

Alphatax Corporate Tax prepares and electronically files iXBRL-compliant returns for the UK, Ireland and UAE. It can be deployed in the cloud, on-premise or as a hosted service, giving organisations several ways to fit it into their technology environment. APIs connect it with third-party systems and data, and Alphamap provides a data-mapping integration.

The product supports consolidated returns, tax provision work, accounting integrations and approval workflows. These capabilities are relevant to organisations that need to coordinate tax information across systems and review processes, though the available information does not specify the exact scope of each integration or workflow.

VAT

Alphatax VAT includes HMRC-recommended checks as well as configurable data checks. It supports partial exemption and group VAT consolidation, and provides trend comparisons and reporting. Together, these functions cover both validation and recurring group-level VAT work.

Pillar Two and research

Alphatax Pillar Two supports GIR and QDMTT compliance and filing workflows across jurisdictions. It offers direct filing where that is available, with practical alternatives where direct filing is not an option.

Loctax AI Assistant is a tax research tool that provides source-backed research across more than 220 jurisdictions. It can analyse documents, draft memos, and draw on an organisation’s data and structure. These are research and document-support functions; they sit alongside the compliance products rather than replacing the need to assess tax obligations.

Security, support and training

Tax Systems says it has held ISO 27001 certification since July 2020 and encrypts information both at rest and in transit. Its UK cloud service is hosted on Microsoft Azure data centres in UK West and UK South. Customer support is available Monday to Friday, 09:00–17:30, and the company says it resolves 90% of queries within 24 hours.

Instructor-led training courses are developed by tax professionals for tax professionals. This may help teams adopting the software build product knowledge, although the available details do not specify course schedules or formats.

Pricing

Alphatax is paid software, and pricing is available on request. A free trial is available; specifically, the Alphatax Provisioning enquiry form offers a free 14-day trial. The stated trial duration applies to Provisioning, so prospective customers should confirm trial availability and terms for other products directly with Alphatax.

Platforms

Alphatax is listed for API, web and Windows. Corporate Tax deployment options include cloud, on-premise and hosted arrangements. The available platform information does not identify specific supported Windows versions or detail the technical requirements for each deployment model.

Who it's for

Alphatax is best suited to businesses and tax teams managing corporate compliance, VAT or tax provisioning at organisational scale. Its Corporate Tax coverage across three jurisdictions may fit companies with filing obligations in the UK, Ireland or UAE, while Pillar Two is directed at multinational organisations. Provisioning is explicitly intended for in-house tax and finance teams coordinating several entities, contributors, currencies or jurisdictions.

It is less clearly positioned for individuals or small organisations seeking a straightforward personal tax filing tool: the stated product scope centres on corporate and multinational tax work, and pricing requires an enquiry.

Pros and cons

Pros: VAT functions include data checks, partial exemption support, group consolidation and trend reporting.
Pros: Pillar Two workflows cover GIR and QDMTT across jurisdictions, and Loctax AI Assistant provides research across more than 220 jurisdictions.
Cons: Pricing is not published, so organisations must request a quote to assess cost.
Cons: The free 14-day trial is specified for Alphatax Provisioning; trial terms for the rest of the suite are not detailed.
Cons: The available platform details do not state system requirements or explain the depth of particular integrations.

Verdict

Alphatax brings together corporate tax, VAT, provisioning and Pillar Two capabilities, with notable breadth in jurisdictional filing support, deployment choices and group-oriented processes. Its listed security controls, support hours and instructor-led training add operational context for organisations considering a substantial tax system. The main buying uncertainties are commercial and technical: pricing is quote-based, and the published platform details leave system requirements and integration specifics open. For in-house teams dealing with multiple entities or jurisdictions, it is a substantial suite to evaluate; organisations with simpler or personal filing needs may find its corporate focus broader than they require.
