Overview

Alice organizes its work around a case: it can identify facts, issues, and connections across documents, then lets lawyers ask questions of the case file in natural language. Research, argument building, and drafting extend that same workflow rather than treating legal writing as a standalone task. That focus is a strength for litigation matters; teams seeking a broader legal practice platform should compare its scope carefully against their needs.

Key features

Case analysis and research

Automatic case analysis surfaces facts and issues across documents, while Ask Alice lets users query a file in natural language. Alice Research links case facts to relevant law and doctrine, drawing on public and private libraries and returning cited answers. The citations give lawyers material to assess and verify, rather than asking them to rely on an unsupported response.

Arguments and drafting

The argument builder turns facts and research into structured arguments, rebuttals, and rejoinders with citations for lawyer review. Alice Draft uses facts, arguments, positions, and citations to assemble litigation documents, which lawyers can refine in Microsoft Word. The sequence is coherent for matter work, though the generated work remains a starting point for professional review.

Integrations and data handling

Alice has a Microsoft Word add-in; SharePoint integration is included with Advanced. Alice says customer data is isolated by organization, encrypted in transit using TLS 1.2 or higher and in Azure databases, and that document texts are stored in OpenAI vector stores. It says personal data is processed solely within the EU, customer data is not used to train AI models, and the service complies with GDPR. Alice has started an ISO 27001 process and says it is in the final stage of becoming accredited; that is not the same as completed accreditation.

Pricing

Alice is paid software with no free plan and a 14-day trial. Core costs 85.00 EUR per month, billed at €85 / month per user, with monthly or yearly billing and 15% off shown for yearly billing. It includes unlimited cases, automatic case analysis, research, the argument builder, and document generator. The per-user charge makes total cost rise with team size, so small and medium teams should weigh the full seat count before choosing it.

Advanced uses custom pricing and is designed for larger teams of 6+ users. It includes everything in Core, plus dedicated support and onboarding, flexible user management, SharePoint integration, and tailored setup. The additional deployment and administration support may suit firmwide rollouts, but teams need a quote to assess its cost. Users can change plans at any time, with no long-term contracts or cancellation fees.

Platforms

Alice is web-based, with a Microsoft Word add-in for drafting. Its supported platform listings also include Linux, macOS, and Windows; the workflow is centered on the web rather than a standalone desktop app.

Who it's for

Core is aimed at small and medium teams handling litigation matters that can benefit from connected case analysis, cited legal research, argument development, and document drafting. Advanced is aimed at larger teams and firmwide deployments that need flexible user management, SharePoint, dedicated support, and onboarding. Alice is less compelling for readers whose primary need falls outside litigation workflows or who need a price they can evaluate without requesting a custom quote.

Pros and cons

Pro: Case analysis, research, arguments, and drafting are connected around matter work, reducing the need to treat each stage as a separate tool.
Pro: Research answers and generated arguments include citations for lawyer review, supporting verification.
Pro: Core includes unlimited cases and the main workflow tools, with no long-term contract or cancellation fee.
Con: Core's €85 monthly per-user charge can add up across a team.
Con: Advanced has custom pricing, so larger firms must obtain a quote before judging budget fit.
Con: ISO 27001 accreditation is still in process, rather than complete.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison, see Legal AI Software. Clearbrief is worth considering for law students, who have a free plan, or for readers who prefer its web and Windows availability. Harvey is another paid legal AI option, with Android, iOS, web, API, and extension platforms. Judicio may suit readers looking for a Professional plan with 5,000 monthly credits, one seat, and 10,000 free upload pages per month before page-related credits apply. LegitQuest offers a freemium option and a Plus plan for SMEs billed yearly or half-yearly. Robin AI is another paid option with a free plan and web and extension access. OpusLaw may appeal to readers seeking a freemium service with a $9.99/mo Carta Actus plan or a $29.99/mo Carta Corpus plan. DocJuris is an alternative for teams seeking an annual platform fee sized to contract volume, unlimited users, and enterprise integrations. Spellbook is worth comparing for teams focused on a Word add-in and associate, with custom pricing based on team size.

Verdict

Alice is a strong fit for litigation teams that want case analysis, cited research, structured arguments, and drafting brought together in a matter-centered workflow. Its main reason to choose it is that connected process; its main reason to look elsewhere is the per-user Core cost or the need to obtain custom pricing for Advanced. Take the 14-day trial to judge whether the workflow earns its place in your team's practice.
