What Vikidia is

Vikidia is a collaborative online encyclopedia primarily for readers and contributors aged 8–13. It is free to use on the web, and anyone can read or help improve articles, layout, and organization. Articles are expected to be verifiable and neutral, with language and presentation appropriate for the intended age group. Contributors may edit anonymously or create an account, and previous article versions are saved so changes can be recovered. Content may be copied, modified, and distributed under the CC BY-SA 3.0 and GNU licenses, with attribution and the same license retained. Vikidia welcomes school projects and provides teachers and students with guidance, examples, and contact information. Its legal page says children are not asked for their real names; registration email, if provided, is used only for technical purposes. The Vikidia association, a non-profit organization under French law, owns and maintains the site. It says it accepts donations and operates without advertising. Users can ask contributors for help on The Scholar page or contact the community through chat, Discord, or IRC. Vikidia was founded in 2006, is headquartered in Rennes, France, and says it is hosted by OVH.
