Thea Render
Thea Render is a 3D renderer that brings unbiased and GPU rendering engines into one framework.
What Thea Render is
Thea Render is a 3D renderer that brings unbiased and GPU rendering engines into one framework. Its light simulation and spectral rendering calculate global illumination, reflections, refractions and caustics within the visible wavelength spectrum. The software includes Presto and Nitro GPU-accelerated engines, along with NVIDIA and Intel AI denoisers for interactive and production rendering. Thea for SketchUp supports interactive rendering in the SketchUp view or a separate Thea window. The Rhino integration supports Grasshopper geometry during interactive rendering and Rhino fly-through and turntable animations. An integrated content browser provides Thea materials, models and environments, including community-submitted materials in an online repository. Thea Node lets machines on a local network contribute to rendering, even when a node uses a different operating system from the integration. The SketchUp integration supports versions 2018–2026; Rhino compatibility includes Rhino 6.33, 7.17 and later, plus Rhino 8. The listed SketchUp and Rhino licenses each cost $675 a year, billed 3-Years, and do not include a standalone application. Thea Node is free.
Good
- Combines unbiased and GPU rendering engines
- Includes NVIDIA and Intel AI denoisers
- Supports interactive rendering in SketchUp and Rhino workflows
- Thea Node allows local-network machines to contribute
- Includes a browser for materials, models and environments
Watch out
- Listed integrations do not include a standalone application
- SketchUp and Rhino licenses are billed 3-Years
- Thea Render has no cloud rendering
Who it suits
Thea Render suits 3D artists and design teams using SketchUp or Rhino who need interactive or production rendering. Its local-network nodes can also suit teams that want other machines to contribute rendering capacity.
Verdict
Thea Render combines GPU rendering, denoising and host integrations for SketchUp and Rhino workflows. Check the license format and host-version compatibility before choosing an integration.
