Resume Genius

Resume Genius is a guided resume and application-document builder for people who want structured writing help rather than a blank page. It is a strong fit for students, career changers, freelancers, and experienced applicants who need ATS-oriented templates and mobile access. Its broad editing and review toolkit is most useful when you are willing to move beyond the free plan's TXT-only resume export.

Overview

Resume Genius combines resume creation, resume import and editing, cover-letter writing, and job-search resources in one service. A section-by-section workflow supplies prompts, expert tips, and pre-written content, which can reduce the work of turning scattered experience into a coherent application. Uploading an existing resume gives users a way to improve an older document instead of starting over.

The service offers 25 templates that it describes as ATS-friendly for common applicant-tracking systems. That is a sensible priority for online applications, although template compatibility cannot guarantee a hiring result. The job board is restricted to US listings, so international job seekers will need another source for vacancies.

Key features

Guided writing and AI

Resume Genius includes an AI summary generator, skills generator, and resume parser. These tools are practical for overcoming writer's block, identifying skills in existing material, and organizing imported content. They are less compelling for applicants who already have polished, highly customized copy and prefer to control every sentence themselves.

Application tools

A cover-letter builder, resume checker, expert resume review, and digital resume extend the product beyond template assembly. Keeping these steps together can make it easier to prepare a complete application, while the review features are aimed at users who want feedback rather than formatting alone. Cover-letter output can be downloaded as PDF, Word, or TXT on free access; resume output on that tier is TXT only.

Mobile, privacy, and support

The builder is optimized for phones, and the Android, iOS, and web versions suit applicants who switch between devices. Resume Genius says user information is GDPR/CCPA compliant and provides cookie opt-out plus personal-data access or removal options. Its privacy policy covers contact details, employment and education history, skills, resumes, and other application data, so users should consider the sensitivity of what they upload. Phone, email, and live-chat support runs Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM EDT.

Pricing

Resume Genius uses a freemium model. Free Access costs free (billed $0) and includes the builders, a US-only job board, and TXT-only resume downloads; cover letters can be downloaded in PDF, Word, or TXT. It is suitable for a basic text resume or for evaluating the workflow, but not for someone who needs a formatted PDF or Word resume at no cost.

The 14-day Trial Plan has custom pricing and includes resume and cover-letter builders, the AI summary generator, resume checker, resume review, and PDF, Word, and TXT downloads. The Annual Plan also has custom pricing with the same listed tools and formats. Paid access starts at 7.95 /mo. A 14-day money-back guarantee is advertised, and subscriptions can be canceled by email, phone, or through the account dashboard. Pricing support accepts credit cards but not PayPal, Venmo, prepaid cards, or debit cards, which may rule out otherwise suitable plans for some buyers.

Platforms

Resume Genius is available on Android, iOS, and the web. Mobile optimization makes it viable for creating or editing a resume on a phone, while web access remains useful for longer editing sessions and downloads.

Who it's for

Students and entry-level applicants benefit from prompts and pre-written examples; experienced professionals and career changers can use import, parsing, and editing tools to reshape existing material. Freelancers and gig workers may value the digital resume and cover-letter workflow. It is less suitable for non-US users seeking an integrated job board or for anyone who cannot pay by credit card when formatted resume files are required.

Pros and cons

Verdict

Pick Resume Genius if you want guided writing, ATS-focused templates, AI assistance, and resume-review tools across phone and web. Its strongest case is the all-in-one workflow for applicants who need help producing both resumes and cover letters. Look elsewhere if you need a non-US job board, free PDF or Word resume downloads, or payment methods beyond supported credit cards.
