What oStorybook is
oStorybook is free desktop software for writers, essayists, and authors who want to organize a story from its early draft through finished work. It brings characters, locations, scenes, objects, reference points, and ideas into one project. Four views let you work with the story chronologically, by chapters and scenes, as a book, or in a reading view. Scenes can connect to a main story thread and optionally to secondary threads. Global Ideas tracks each idea as not started, started, finished, or abandoned. Writing tools include spell-checking with a customizable dictionary and synonym and antonym lookup. Projects can be imported from LibreOffice ODT or Microsoft Word DOCX and exported to ODT, DOCX, TXT, CSV, HTML, XML, or SQL. oStorybook runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux and requires Java 8 or OpenJDK. It costs nothing, has no cloud sync, and does not require registration to use. The help forum requires an account to post a question; email is also offered as a help contact if the forum is unavailable.
