NetMagis is free, open-source network management software for Linux, self-hosted and web deployment.
What NetMagis is
NetMagis is free, open-source network management software for Linux, self-hosted and web deployment. It manages IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, subnet planning, DNS data and DHCP operations in one system. NetMagis generates DNS server data and keeps BIND zone files current, while delegation lets other administrators or non-specialists handle selected DNS work. User groups and fine-grained privileges control access to addresses and domains. Static and dynamic DHCP allocations, including network-boot profiles, are supported. The web interface assigns VLANs to Cisco, HP and Juniper equipment interfaces. NetMagis can generate topology maps for switched or routed networks, expose equipment traffic graphs and locate hosts by IP address, MAC address or equipment port. Accounts can use LDAP or the NetMagis database. The project targets large numbers of networks, users, domains and DHCP profiles, and includes audit history. It dates from 2002; the README names Pierre David, Jean Benoit and Sebastien Boggia as authors.
Good
- Open-source and free
- IPv4 and IPv6 address management
- DNS delegation and BIND zone updates
- Static and dynamic DHCP profiles
- Topology maps and host lookup
Watch out
- Self-hosted deployment required
- Linux platform focus
- Latest listed commit is from May 8, 2023
Who it suits
It suits network administrators who need self-hosted control of addressing, DNS, DHCP and equipment data. Organizations using LDAP, BIND, ISC DHCPD or supported Cisco, HP and Juniper equipment may find its integrations relevant.
Verdict
NetMagis brings address, DNS, DHCP and network equipment administration into a self-hosted system. Its delegation, permissions, mapping and scale features target complex network environments.
