Overview

The platform covers invoice intake, data extraction, matching, approvals, supplier communication and ERP transfer. AI and machine learning structure invoice data, and invoices without exceptions can proceed touchlessly. That can reduce routine handling for high-volume AP teams, but mismatches still need people to resolve them.

Business rules compare invoice data with purchase orders and goods receipts, then centralise exceptions for review. Configurable approval routes can use entity, amount or cost centre, while archived invoice and workflow history supports traceability across complex operations.

Key features

Supplier collaboration

The online supplier portal shows invoice and payment status and gives suppliers a channel to communicate and resolve issues. That may reduce status-chasing, particularly where many suppliers interact with a central AP team.

ERP connectivity and reporting

Pre-built integrations cover SAP, Microsoft, Oracle and Sage; REST APIs and file exchange provide other connection paths. The cloud platform can support AP processes across ERP environments and provides dashboards, KPIs and actionable insights. This breadth suits organizations working across systems, though buyers should confirm that their particular environment fits the intended integration path.

Mobile approvals and controls

Esker Anywhere lets managers view, approve, hold or return supplier invoices on Apple and Android devices; the described mobile workflow also includes purchase requisitions. Esker says its cloud platform is ISO 27001 certified and reports zero complaints for GDPR non-compliance on its customer confidence page. Those statements may matter to security-conscious finance teams, but they do not replace a buyer's own review of requirements.

Pricing

Esker Accounts Payable is paid software with custom pricing: buyers must contact Esker or request a demo. There is no free plan or free trial, so teams cannot evaluate it through a no-cost tier before engaging. No seat quota or renewal term is stated; large organizations should request a proposal that spells out scope and commercial terms.

Platforms

The platform is available on web, Android and iOS, with API access. Mobile approvals are useful for managers away from a desk, while API access supports integration work alongside the listed ERP and file-exchange options.

Who it's for

This is best suited to large companies and complex finance organizations that need invoice capture, matching, approvals, supplier collaboration and ERP posting tied into a coordinated AP process. Smaller teams seeking a self-serve, free or transparently priced tool should look elsewhere. Esker is headquartered in Lyon, France, with its U.S. headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin; the company was founded in 1985.

Pros and cons

Pros: AI extraction and touchless handling for invoices without exceptions can cut routine AP intervention.
Pros: Matching, configurable approvals and archived workflow history connect controls from invoice review through posting.
Pros: Supplier status visibility and multiple ERP connection methods support organizations with broad supplier and system landscapes.
Cons: Custom pricing and no free trial make early evaluation and budget comparison less straightforward.
Cons: Exceptions still require review and resolution, so automation does not eliminate AP work.
