Encyclopedia of Korean Culture is a free online reference covering Korean history, culture, thought, arts, regions, and daily life. Its articles address fields including philosophy, religion, art, and society, and are written by experts in their academic fields. Readers can search by keyword, use detailed or media search, or browse by field and entry type; entries are also organized by period. The service provides text and images on the web and offers an API for individuals and institutions developing services or applications with encyclopedia content. The API can list, search, and retrieve article and media records. Access requires an application with a detailed purpose; an issued key is sent by email and becomes usable 30 minutes after registration. Some text and media marked Public Nuri can be reused when the Academy owns all economic rights, subject to the stated attribution format. Media without that mark may require separate permission from its copyright owner. The print encyclopedia's first edition appeared in 1991 in 27 volumes, containing approximately 65,000 entries.
