As we reported last week, Xiaomi’s brand Redmi is going to launch the Redmi Note 11 series at a global launch on the 26th. At the very same launch, the brand is also expected to launch its latest MIUI 13 custom skin based on Android 12.
Just ahead of the Global launch, Xiaomi and their sister brands have started testing out MIUI 13 for a handful of devices. These are still being done on a pool of early testers and the testing program is expected to be opened for more smartphone models. For a refresher, Xiaomi had announced the MIUI 13 on December 28th at their Xiaomi 12 China launch. Seeing how bad the MIUI 12 turned out for them, Xiaomi developers are working overtime to push MIUI 13 to a wider selection of models.
This new MIUI build tackles some of the downsides that the outgoing version had and is heavily focused on security. There has been some pushback from the community as some important Android 12 features like location access settings, camera in-use privacy notifications, new UI elements have not been introduced in this new MIUI 13 build. For now, this new build has been only pushed to the Global Redmi Note 10 and Redmi Note 10 Pro model along with Mi 11 Lite. These builds are based on Android 12 but MIUI works independent of the Android version, so much older Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO models with Android 10 or 11 will also be eligible for this new update.
We will bring more on MIUI 13 including a hands-on post as soon as it is announced globally.
