Xiaomi is all set to announce the latest Redmi A2 smartphone series in India on May 19th. The A2 series will essentially consist of the A2 and A2+ models which will be the successors to the popular Redmi A1 (review) and the Redmi A1+ budget smartphones in the country. Xiaomi has already put out a set of teasers for the device on their social media channels and from the looks of it, these smartphones will be identical to the A1 series in the looks department.
Redmi A2 & A2+ specifications
Both the Redmi A2 and the A2+ will sport a 6.52-inch LCD panel with an HD+ resolution and a dew-drop notch with thicker bezels. The handsets will be powered by the octa-core MediaTek Helio G36 SoC and paired with up to 3GB RAM and up to 32GB of internal storage with the option to expand the storage via a microSD card.
As for the optics, the Redmi A2 and A2+ will feature a dual camera setup on the rear with an 8MP primary camera along with a secondary depth sensor. There will be a 5MP camera upfront for selfies and video calls. Other features on the handsets include a leather-like texture on the back plate, Android 13 (Go Edition) out of the box with essential MIUI apps, a rear mounted-fingerprint scanner (on A2+ only), and a 5,000mAh battery with support for 10W charging.
Looking at the past pricing of the A1 series in India it is safe to say that the upcoming A2 series will also be priced under INR 10,000 in the country.
