Accidentally deleting cherished photos from your Xiaomi phone can be distressing. Fortunately, there are several methods to recover deleted photos, whether or not you have a backup. This guide provides step-by-step instructions to help you retrieve your lost images.

  1. Restore from the Gallery Trash Bin

When you delete photos on a Xiaomi device, they are moved to the Trash Bin in the Gallery app, where they remain for 30 days before permanent deletion.

Steps:

  1. Open the Gallery app on your Xiaomi phone.
  2. Navigate to the Albums tab.
  3. Scroll down and select Trash Bin.
  4. Browse through the deleted photos.
  5. Tap and hold the photos you wish to recover.
  6. Tap Restore to return them to your Gallery.

Note: This method only works within 30 days of deletion.

  1. Recover from Mi Cloud Backup

If you have enabled Mi Cloud backup, you can restore deleted photos from your cloud storage.

Steps:

  1. Go to Settings on your Xiaomi device.
  2. Tap on Mi Account and sign in if prompted.
  3. Select Mi Cloud > Restore from backup.
  4. Choose the backup file that contains your photos.
  5. Tap Restore and wait for the process to complete.

Note: Ensure that you have previously backed up your photos to Mi Cloud.

  1. Retrieve from Google Photos

If you use Google Photos and have backup & sync enabled, your deleted photos might be recoverable from there.

Steps:

  1. Open the Google Photos app.
  2. Tap on Library > Trash.
  3. Browse through the deleted photos.
  4. Select the photos you want to recover.
  5. Tap Restore to move them back to your Google Photos library and device storage.

Note: Photos remain in the Trash for 60 days before permanent deletion.

  1. Use Google Drive

If you’ve manually uploaded photos to Google Drive, you can download them back to your device.

Steps:

  1. Open the Google Drive app.
  2. Navigate to My Drive.
  3. Locate the photos you wish to recover.
  4. Tap the three-dot menu next to the photo.
  5. Select Download to save the photo to your device.

Note: This method only works if you’ve previously uploaded the photos to Google Drive.

  1. Employ Third-Party Data Recovery Software

If the above methods don’t work, third-party data recovery tools can help retrieve deleted photos, even without a backup.

Popular Tools:

  • Tenorshare UltData for Android
  • Wondershare Dr.Fone
  • MobiKin Doctor for Android

General Steps:

  1. Download and install the recovery software on your computer.
  2. Connect your Xiaomi phone to the computer via USB.
  3. Enable USB debugging on your phone.
  4. Launch the recovery software and select the option to recover photos.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to scan your device.
  6. Preview and select the photos you wish to recover.
  7. Click Recover to save them to your computer.

Note: Some tools may require rooting your device for a deeper scan.

  1. Restore from Local Backup

Xiaomi devices offer a local backup feature that stores data on your device or SD card.

Steps:

  1. Open the Backup app on your Xiaomi phone.
  2. Select the backup file that contains your photos.
  3. Tap Restore and wait for the process to complete.

Note: This method is applicable only if you’ve previously created a local backup.

  1. Check Other Cloud Services

If you use other cloud storage services like Dropbox or OneDrive, check their respective apps or websites for your deleted photos.

Steps:

  1. Open the cloud storage app or website.
  2. Navigate to the Trash or Deleted Files section.
  3. Locate and select the photos you wish to recover.
  4. Choose the option to Restore or Download the photos.

Note: The retention period for deleted files varies by service.

Preventive Measures

To avoid future data loss:

  • Regular Backups: Enable automatic backups to Mi Cloud or Google Photos.
  • Use SD Cards: Store photos on an SD card, which can be easier to recover data from.
  • Avoid Overwriting: Stop using your phone immediately after data loss to prevent overwriting deleted files.
