Plan The Story As Music
Before generating anything, reduce the story to a few scenes. A short film-like score needs room to change: a restrained opening, a cue that builds tension, a clear turning point, and an ending that leaves the intended feeling. Decide what the listener should feel at each beat, rather than trying to describe every plot detail in one prompt.
- Write one sentence describing the story’s central emotional shift, such as “a lonely traveler finds the courage to return home.”
- Choose three or four moments that could change the music: the opening image, the first threat or discovery, the climax, and the final image.
- For each moment, note its energy, emotional color, and whether the music should grow, hold back, or resolve.
- Choose a consistent musical identity for the story, then specify how each cue should depart from it. A recurring style helps the cues feel related even when their moods differ.
Generate And Shape The Score In AIVA
1. Pick A Musical Direction
AIVA generates music in more than 250 styles and supports custom style models. Start with a broad direction that suits the story’s world and emotional tone. For example, describe a “cinematic orchestral underscore for a quiet, wintry mystery, restrained at first and increasingly tense.” Treat this as a creative brief, not a promise that AIVA supports a particular instrument, genre label, or film-scoring control; those specifics are not established here, so check AIVA’s site for the options it currently offers.
2. Give Each Story Beat Its Own Cue Brief
Make a separate brief for each moment rather than asking for the entire story at once. Keep the style identity consistent and change the dramatic instruction. For example:

These are human-written creative briefs, not verified AIVA prompt syntax. Use the controls AIVA actually provides, and check its site if you need a particular instrument, duration, or other specific parameter.
3. Use An Influence Only If You Have One
AIVA accepts audio or MIDI influences. If you have an original musical sketch that captures the story’s pulse or mood, use it as a reference and then edit the generated track toward the scene. Do not upload someone else’s recording or MIDI unless you have permission to use it; check AIVA’s terms for how uploaded material may be used. No particular influence-matching behavior is established, so treat an upload as a starting point rather than expecting it to reproduce a specific melody or arrangement.

4. Edit For Dramatic Shape
AIVA lets users edit generated tracks. Listen against your scene notes and adjust the music so each cue serves its moment: hold back before the reveal, build where the character commits to a choice, and give the ending enough room to land. The available editing controls are not specified here, so check AIVA’s site for the exact edits it supports. Vocal generation is unavailable, which suits a score that should remain instrumental; if your story needs sung words, this workflow does not establish a way to generate them in AIVA.
5. Check Duration And Download Limits
AIVA’s Free plan allows 3 downloads per month and a maximum track duration of 3 minutes.
